31 Days to Stir Up

The Fire for the Harvest

One Scripture and one short prayer for each day. Pray it on the call, or carry it through your day.

Day 13 of 31 · Tuesday, October 13

The Word of God

How to pray today

  • Keep it short: pray for 3 to 5 minutes at most. A short prayer prayed with faith is enough.
  • Everyone is welcome and encouraged to join the call and pray together. Every voice counts, so don't hold back.
  • Read the Scripture aloud, pray the prayer below, then add your own words for the day's theme.

For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

Hebrews 4:12 (NKJV)

Pray

Lord, give us a love for Your word. Let it read us while we read it. Let Your word grow and prevail in our homes and in this city.

Prayer guide · six targets

Read the Scripture aloud, speak the declaration together, then pray the specifics by name. Where a line says “name,” say the actual name out loud.

  1. Target 1

    Hunger for the Word

an appetite for Scripture in every member, stronger than the appetite for news, phones and entertainment.

Your words were found, and I ate them, And Your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart; For I am called by Your name, O LORD God of hosts.

    Jeremiah 15:16 (NKJV)

But He answered and said, “It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’ ”

    Matthew 4:4 (NKJV)

    Declare together

Your words are found, and we eat them. Your word is the joy and rejoicing of our hearts, for we are called by Your name.

We do not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.

    Pray it specific

    • Name the book of the Bible you are reading now, and the time of day you read it.
    • Name what competes with the Word for your attention, and put it second.
    • Name one person in the church who is not reading Scripture, and declare hunger over them.
  2. Target 2

    Light for the next step

clear direction from Scripture for the decisions in front of us this week.

Your word is a lamp to my feet And a light to my path.

    Psalm 119:105 (NKJV)

The entrance of Your words gives light; It gives understanding to the simple.

    Psalm 119:130 (NKJV)

    Declare together

Your word is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path.

The entrance of Your words gives light. It gives understanding to the simple, and it gives understanding to us.

    Pray it specific

    • Name the decision you are facing, and ask for a verse that speaks to it.
    • Name our leaders, and declare the Word as the light on every decision they make for this house.
    • Name the area where you have been walking in the dark.
  3. Target 3

The Word hidden in the heart

Scripture memorized and carried, so it is there when temptation and trouble come.

Your word I have hidden in my heart, That I might not sin against You.

    Psalm 119:11 (NKJV)

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.

    Colossians 3:16 (NKJV)

    Declare together

Your word we have hidden in our hearts, that we might not sin against You.

The word of Christ dwells in us richly in all wisdom. We teach and admonish one another, and we sing with grace in our hearts to the Lord.

    Pray it specific

    • Name one verse you will memorize this week. Say the reference out loud.
    • Name the sin that keeps returning, and the verse you will answer it with.
    • Name the children in your home, and declare the Word hidden in their hearts.
  4. Target 4

The Word that does not return void

every word God has spoken over this church and this city accomplishes what He sent it to do.

“For as the rain comes down, and the snow from heaven, And do not return there, But water the earth, And make it bring forth and bud, That it may give seed to the sower And bread to the eater, So shall My word be that goes forth from My mouth; It shall not return to Me void, But it shall accomplish what I please, And it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it.

    Isaiah 55:10–11 (NKJV)

    Declare together

The word that goes out of God's mouth does not return to Him void. It accomplishes what He pleases, and it prospers in the thing for which He sent it.

As rain waters the earth and makes it bring forth and bud, the Word waters Aiken and brings forth seed and bread.

    Pray it specific

    • Name a promise from Scripture you are standing on, with its reference.
    • Name a word spoken over Glory City Aiken that has not yet come to pass.

    Sound doctrine

a church that knows the Scriptures well enough to test what it hears.

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

    2 Timothy 3:16–17 (NKJV)

These were more fair-minded than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness, and searched the Scriptures daily to find out whether these things were so.

    Acts 17:11 (NKJV)

    Declare together

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God. It is profitable to us for doctrine, for reproof, for correction and for instruction in righteousness. We are complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves.

    James 1:22 (NKJV)

So the word of the Lord grew mightily and prevailed.
